Moving fast? Or are you almost done?

[ sousuke knows the speed rin works. knows the general sense of how long rin will wait in a single place before moving on. he knows it, because he's constantly been chasing it, waiting and ready for the next moment he can catch up and walk alongside him.

today, rin got a head start, but sousuke won't let it last too long. ]

I can only ask one thing? [ because he is cocky and rin will not get out of this without stating specifics. ]

[There's a metal clanking in the background, the sound of a locker slammed shut. That's all the answer Sousuke should need, along with a grin he can't really see.]

I'm always fast. [And now Rin is being cocky, though he doesn't realize there are other implications to his words-- implications that Sousuke knows better than anyone.]

When did you get that greedy? One thing is more than enough! [An indignant huff, just for show.] But it can be anything, as long as it's in my power to do it.

[ someone is already moving out of the auditorium, not putting too much effort into his appearance other than getting back into his school uniform, and heading directly for his locker. he'll miss rin, probably, but he needs to see what he put in there. what rin had to get up early to accomplish.

sousuke represses the urge to snort, though he probably lets out enough of one for rin to hear (what. he's a teenage boy, okay. that's totally the only reason. ) ] Uh-huh. That's what you said last time I beat you in a race, too.

[ harmless teasing, of course. just some friendly banter. but then sousuke makes a thoughtful noise. ] Anything at all? And you won't back down from it?

[Wow, that was not the kind of implication he meant, okay, why are you laughing at him??]

Hmph. Just wait until you're back in the pools, see if you can make good on all that big talk! [Although this is a lot of big talk from Rin, himself. He looks forward to the day his best friend can give him a run for his money in the water, like he was always meant to do.]

But yeah, you can ask for anything at all. Unless you ask me to punch someone in the face or something, that I won't do.

[ uh-huh. definitely. of course. ]

I will. But you have to be a better loser next time. [ it's a lot of big talk from the both of them, but that's just how that works. they talk big at each other so that when the time comes that they are able to compete, there is nothing left but their heart and their bodies. ]

[And that's how it is, the friendly trash-talking that simultaneously means very little - because they both know each other's true potential - and so very much - because it's familiar, and comfortable, and them. It's almost enough to overwrite the sheer levels of annoyance and indignation surging up at Sousuke's choice. Except it really isn't.]

On the one hand, this is entirely absurd and Rin is 110% Sousuke is doing it on purpose just to tick him off-- which is clearly working, judging by his not-so-quiet growling and fuming. But on the other hand, he has a reputation!! And he doesn't back down from a promise or a challenge!!

[And by carefully consider, I really mean throwing a tantrum and spewing profanities in foreign tongues Sousuke can't really understand all that well. Though he can definitely hear some metal rumbling, right? Yes, he guessed right, Rin is totally kicking things in his fit of rage-- lockers, trash bins, whatever is on his way.]

can you hear smug grins through phone calls? no? well you can probably hear this one. the tantrum made it even sweeter, honestly, but sousuke isn't going to say as much. if anything, he's going to be very casual about the whole thing. isn't even going to seem all that excited about the fact.

[ which is is about to find soon, making it to his locker and having to rearrange the phone - he's almost at full regrowth, but the nerves are still weird in his hand so he tends to not use it. ]

[ thinking...thinking... oh. hi cupcakes.

a pause. ]

Hey, Rin. [ he's reaching in to grab the cupcakes now, looking them over and trying to hide how he's kinda...really happy about these. not that rin could see it, this all being on audio and everything. ] Did you make these?

[There's some low grumbling and growling when Sousuke mentions testing it out, but Rin doesn't protest otherwise; he's given his word now, so all he can do is brace for impact.

At the question, though, he's at least glad for the change of subject.]

Yeah. They're pretty simple 'cause baking is not my specialty, and I had to get help from some baking club guys, anyway, but I guess they taste all right.

[Yes, he did taste test, but you know Rin, he doesn't like sweets and all that.]

[ the grumbling makes him chuckle a little. this day is all about making rin annoyed, apparently, and sousuke is willing to be the one in charge of it. he waits, though, not quite wanting to ruin the image of it.

sousuke goes for it - even if he's not a huge sweets fan, rin made it. rin made him a birthday present. he takes a bite, and makes a content noise, almost surprised. ] These are really good.

[ just...give him some time to finish this. ]

I told you, I got a little help from the baking club. 'Sides, just because I don't like sweets, doesn't mean I don't have a general idea of what goes into basic cake batter. Frosting and decorating was mostly on Anna, though.
